A Brief Introduction
　　Shanghai Pudong Kangqiao Industrial Zone was set up in May 1992, and was approved by the People's Government of Shanghai Municipality as a municipal-level industrial zone in August 1994. The planned area for development is 26.88 square kilometers, of which about 8 square kilometers are within the planned property line of Pudong New Area and can enjoy the same preferential policies as Pudong New Area does. The Kangqiao Industrial Zone is located in the southern end of Pudong New Area and along both sides of the Pudong section of the urban Outer Ring Road. With the famous town of Pudong-Zhoupu on the south and the Zhangjiang High-tech Park on the north, the Kangqiao Industrial Zone is located near the Pudong international Airport on the east and Xupu Bridge on the west. Only 8 km away from Nanpu Bridge and 10 km away from people's Square in downtown, the industrial zone has an ideal and superior geographic location.
　　The Kangqiao Industrial Zone has the advantages of convenient water-land-air trasportation network. The 6-lane Hunan Highway in the zone links the industrial zone with downtown Shanghai. It is also an important road leading to the southern provinces of China. The urban Outer Ring Road, which runs through the entire zone from east to west, serves as an expressway linking the two international airports and leading to Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. The river in the zone connects Kangqiao with Huangpu River and futher leads to Yangze River and the East China Sea; the Yangshan Deepwater Port, which is soon to be built 45km southeast of the industrial zone, will lead to everywhere in the world. The Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport located on the east and on the west respectively are important pivots for both international and domestic air transportation.
　　To gain a harmonious and supplementary development together with Pudong New Area, and using the urban Outer Ring Road as its basic axis, the industrial zone has planned to set up-8 functional parks, including an industrial park, a commercial & trade park, a science & trade park and an industrial & commercial park. At the same time, a detailed plan has been made in a scientific, comprehensive and proper way for the development of a social welfare network, including cultural, educational and health care facilities, as well as the infrastructure such as power supply, water supply, telecommunications, gas and drainage system.

There are many financial institutions, beautiful office buildings, high-grade hotels, various kinds of residential house and apartments, first-class schools and urban type of greenspots as well as trandard factory buildings to choose from by foreign investors.
　　The favorable investment environment of the industrial zone has attracted a lot of business customers both at home and abroad. Over the past six years, Kangqiao has introduced 1051 projects of various kinds, including 341 industrial projects with a total contracted value of RMB 9.46 billion yuan and 144 "3 kinds of foreign invested" projects with a total investment of US$ 900 million. Many famous multi-national companies have come one after another to settle in Kangqiao, among which are American Generl Motors, Ford Motors, British Pilkington Co., French Schneider Electrical Co., German Haoman Co., Italian Inzermila Group and Austraian BHP Co. Some domestic big enterprises have also settled in Kangqiao including Faw, Dongfeng Auto Group, and National Nonferrous Metal Co. And Xi'an Huanghe Electrics Co., etc.
