闸北区位于上海市中心区的北部，面积29.21平方公里，是上海机械电器等传统工业比较集中的地区，也是区属工业发展较早的地区之一。市北工业新区是闸北区属工业的主要基地，位于上海市彭浦大工业区北缘，占地120.6公顷，建立于1992年。目前，市北工业新区拥有机械、电子、汽车、电力、轻工、环保、印刷、建材、玻璃、食品等行业近百家企业，其中三资企业占三分之一，如德国泰密克德律风根微电子、日本新夏明电器等著名的通信电子企业。市北工业新区的目标是建成电子通信产业基地。 　　闸北区国有企业集中，厂房资源丰富，与国有企业合作、联手发展都市型工业已成为闸北区经济增长的新亮点。全区现已建成10个都市型工业园区（楼宇），建筑面积13.5万平方米，落户企业170个，提供就业岗位1680个，引进项目投1.5亿元人民币。 　　闸北区重点培育的特色产业是印刷制品业，并有相应的优惠政策。最近将在闸北区南端的不夜城地区辟出专门空间，建立一个特色工业园区，同时设立一个包罗全区、覆盖全市、面向全国的印刷制品销售展示中心，实现市场与生产的直接连接。 　　Zhabei District is located in the north of downtown Shanghai and covers an area of 29.21 square km. It is one of the districts where eletric apparaus and engineering industry are relatively concentrative and local industries are developed earlier. 　　Shibei Industrial Zone, established in 1992, is the primary base of Zhabei local industries, which is located at the northern edge of Shanghai Pengpu Industrial Zone and covers an area of 120.6 hektares. Currently, Shibei Industrial Zone has nearly one hundred resident enterprises engaged in mechanics, electronics, automobile, electric power, light industries, environment protection, printing, building materials, glass and foodstuff. One third of the resident enterprises are foreign-funded, including famous telecommunication and electronic enterprises, The objective of Shibei Industrial Zone is to become a base for telecommunication and electronic industries. In the year of 2001, the district industry created RMB 3.684 billion Yuan of sales value and RMB 1.23 hundred million Yuan of taxes. There are numerous SOE and therefore rich sources of workshops in Zhabei District. Cooperating with SOE and developing urban industry has become a bright spot of Zhabei industry. Up to now, 10 urban industrial parks (buildings) have been well constructed in the district, contributing an architectural area of 135 thousand square meters; attract 170 enterprises and a total investment value of 150 million Yuan and provide 1680 opportunities. 　　Printing and printed products industry is emphasized and corresponding preferential policies have been formulated in Zhabei District. Recently, an area in the south of the district were devoted to establishing a characteristic industrial park and a printing sales & exhibition center, embodying the idea of linking production with market of the industry.
